Many Republicans believe that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is too easily influenced. They claim he’d be little more than a puppet for the policies of far-left politicians.
Right-wing leaders will also claim that Biden has shifted farther left during the course of his campaign. However, it’s still not far enough for certain progressives.
And these progressives have just unveiled a plan that would push Biden even more in their direction.
“The Squad,” along with other Capitol Hill progressives, have a new “vision for America” called The Working Families Party “People’s Charter.”
This plan includes all sorts of commonly discussed far-left ideas, including universal healthcare. And it’s designed to pull Biden and Harris into a more liberal frame of mind.
Via Fox News:
A group of progressives, including the freshman ‘Squad,’ unveiled their new vision for America on Thursday that will serve as a rallying cry for the election and a roadmap on how to push Joe Biden leftward.
One of the plan’s backers, Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., said the agenda will be the legislative blueprint for what progressives in the House will push during a Biden-Harris Administration.
This blueprint features some major left-wing concepts, and some of them are arguably socialist in nature.
The People’s Charter calls for free public healthcare, universal childcare, canceling student debt, a $15/hour minimum wage, and moving money away from law enforcement and towards schools and communities.
Khanna calls it a “clear agenda that progressives in the House will advance focuses on these big items.”
The plan might not be too surprising in the wake of the first few debates. Many progressives believe Biden and Harris didn’t come across as progressive enough during those speeches.
And, of course, they’ve never really seen Biden as the ideal candidate.
They’ve said before Biden wasn’t their #1 choice, but they know they can exert pressure on him to adopt more of the progressive agenda should he get into the Oval Office.
In fact, Working Families Party National Director Maurice Mitchell said:
We’ve always said that electing Joe Biden was a doorway, not a destination.
The People’s Charter is that destination: a nation that cares for all of us, no matter what we look like, where we come from, or how much money is in our pockets.
This “doorway” would be open if Biden won in November. And the People’s Charter is clearly a glimpse of a progressive agenda that would likely continue throughout Biden’s tenure.
The question now is, will Biden prove malleable? Will he be a more liberal president than even some Democrats think?
